Dobratsch Nature Park

The beautiful Villach Alpine Road takes you by car up to 1732 metres above sea level and lands you directly in paradise. An almost endless number of hiking and relaxation options open up for you and your beloved four-legged friend. Dogs feel particularly at home on the Dobratsch in summer thanks to the cool mountain air. Please note that dogs must be kept on a lead on the Dobratsch and throughout the Villach region. The grazing cattle are allowed to move freely and do not want to be disturbed while grazing.

Messner lido

Who doesn't enjoy a dip in the cool water? The Messner lido on Lake Ossiach has its own dog beach. Pets and their owners are very welcome.

Natural jewel Schütt

South of the Dobratsch is the Schütt landslide area with its dreamlike landscape. There you can relax and unwind together with your furry friend. Many paths lead to the fire station in Oberschütt. On the way you will often cross the river "Gail", which offers your dog a little refreshment.

Worounitza sandbank

Water fun for everyone? Want to feel like you're in the Caribbean? Then Lake Faak is the right place for you. The Worounitza river constantly supplies the lake with fresh water from the Karawanken mountains and the lime particles in the water give it a turquoise colour. Go on a discovery tour along the Worounitza with your dog.

Cooling off in Lake Faak

What is more refreshing than a dive into the turquoise blue Faaker See? Our flats have their own bathing beach with a jetty as well as sunbeds and parasols. Our guests can use this offer free of charge. Those who prefer action can paddle through the reed belt by canoe or SUP.

Excursion to the Tscheppa Gorge

"The Tscheppaschlucht Gorge is a stunner". Starting from the visitor centre in Ferlach, you will experience spectacular elemental forces of water framed by particularly beautiful scenery. On the hiking trail through the gorge you can marvel at deep, steep cliffs and a unique geographical natural backdrop.

Off to the mountain

When it's too hot in the valley, the only option is often to escape to lofty heights. Around Lake Faak there are numerous mountains such as the Gerlitzen Alpe, the Nassfeld or the Mittagskogel where you can find hiking trails and via ferratas for every age group and every level of difficulty.

Villach - the carnival mecca for guests and locals alike

The most spectacular and best-known carnival procession far beyond the local borders takes place every year on carnival Saturday in Villach's city centre. A hundred groups parade through the old town in their elaborate costumes and with their colourfully decorated floats, bringing the mood of 10,000 visitors to a boil. But not only on the streets but also in the neighbouring restaurants and retail outlets the cheerfully masked fools swing the sceptre on this day. From early in the morning until late in the evening, the atmosphere in the alleys and streets of the Drau city is exuberant.

Carnival sessions

A few weeks before Shrove Tuesday, carnival meetings take place in many Carinthian towns and communities. There, sketches on political, social and local topics are performed that bring tears of laughter to the eyes of many spectators. The entertainment programme is varied and consists not only of short plays, but also of song, music and dance numbers.

The Fasching sessions in Villach and Klagenfurt are particularly popular. Here you need to book in advance in order to get a seat. The best anecdotes of the Villach carnival are recorded and broadcast on ORF in the evening programme on Shrove Tuesday.
